- 1. BIBLE HISTORY
An overview of Bible history with an emphasis on oral transmission using
stories of the Bible.
- 2. PRINCIPLES OF INTERPRETING THE BIBLE
How to interpret various types and forms of literature
found in the Bible and principles on how to use it today.
- 3. CHURCH HISTORY
A survey of God's action through the Church.
It will note misbeliefs held by some as well as the understanding of
the Church according to the New Testament.
- 4. TEACHING THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
How to be conversant with the depth and richness
of the Christian faith. This will enable the student to teach others.
- 5. WORLD RELIGIONS
An investigation of the beliefs and life view
of many world religions with help on how to assert the Christian view.
- 6. THEOLOGY OF BLINDNESS
A look at what the Bible says about God, His
will, His ways and how this relates to the loss of sight.
- 7. Electives - Choose ONE from the following
list:
- How to Teach a Small Group
An overview of ways of leading and guiding
a small group. The goal is toprepare the student to lead a Bible
study in a small group setting.
- Evangelism
An overview of the different styles of evangelism.
It will then focus on the personal day-to-day evangelism with obstacles
to the sharing of one's faith as it relates to blindness.
- Counseling
An overview of major counseling techniques.
The student will then, through role playing, begin to use these
approaches with an emphasis on active listening.
- Leadership
An overview of different leadership styles,
including team ministry. It will also look at good communication
skills and critical thinking processes which are needed in the many
different roles of a leader.
- 8. FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS
Understanding communication and relationships
in a family system, especially as it pertains to loss of sight. This
includes co-dependence, unhealthy independence, interpersonal communication
and emotional maturity.
- 9. IN-SERVICE TRAINING
This course is designed to help the student put
into practice their new knowledge and skills in their community. This
will be one-on-one work with a practicing church worker.
